Presenters:
John Hardy received his PhD from LSU before the invention of
paper, and he has been a Mathematics Professor at the University
of Houston longer than anyone (aside
from Jim Stepp) can remember. He is currently an
Associate Dean in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the
director of the most successful AMP program in the country, and the head of
the scholarship committee at the University of Houston. John’s passion for
students and education set the bar at a height few of us can reach.
Fortunately, he also has a sense of humor that reaches lower than any of us
can stoop.
Jeff Morgan received his PhD from the
University of Houston
in 1986 and worked as a professor at Texas
A&M University
for the next 16 years. He recently returned to the University of Houston
under the auspices of Senior Outreach Mathematician and Associate Chair in
the Department of Mathematics. Jeff is an active author, lecturer, researcher,
recruiter and motivator. He loves
talking to high school teachers and students, and he is constantly searching
for new ways to use technology in Mathematics education. Jeff is outspoken and engaging.
Unfortunately, he is also opinionated, and he’ll speak his mind -- even if
you don’t want to hear him. Thank goodness John Hardy will be there to
control him.
